The Simpson Intercultural Center has started an Open Mic Night every Thursday from 4-5 p.m. in Syre 217 for Whatcom students who enjoy singing, poetry, storytelling, and more.

Kunmi Ajiboye started Open Mic Nights to give students on campus “a place to perform and have fun.” She got the idea after visiting Western Washington University last year and learning about their open mic nights.

Ajiboye stated that “a lot of people come but not many will perform.” While Ajiboye has not yet performed herself, she hopes to one day.

While only a few students attended on Feb. 9, the previous week had 15-20 students attending. The Simpson Intercultural Center plans to continue hosting these events weekly, and with more students taking on-campus classes, they hope to start bringing in a larger crowd.
