The Spitfire Grill
Whatcom’s drama program will be presenting its first musical production in nine years from November 14 to 17 in the Heiner Theater. “The Spitfire Grill” is being directed by adjunct faculty member Shawn Fuller, with music by adjunct Carol Reed-Jones. Show times are 7:30 p.m. Admission is $12 or $8 with a student I.D.
Applications are now available for Whatcom Community College’s second annual cybersecurity camp. Selected high school juniors and seniors will explore the growing field of information security through hands-on computer activities and a cyberdefense competition. Six interactive sessions will be held at Whatcom from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays, starting Jan. 5, 2013. There is a $60 registration fee. Students may apply at www.whatcom.ctc.edu/cybercenter.
International country fair
International grant students from nine countries will be showcasing their countries’ cultures. Students curious about other countries can check out the colorful table displays in Syre from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15.
Fall trivia bee
Three-person teams may join the Communication Club’s fall trivia bee on Thursday, Nov. 15 at 6 p.m. in the Syre Auditorium. There will be free popcorn and giveaways. Students may watch the competition with a general admission fee of $2. There is a $30 entry fee for each team participating.
Learning center open house
The staff and tutors at the math and writing centers will discuss their services and how they can assist students in becoming successful at Whatcom. There will be treats available for students who attend the open house in Cascade 112 and 113 on Nov. 14, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Representatives from 15 colleges and universities will be available to answer students’ questions on Wednesday, Nov. 14 from 9 a.m. to 12: 30 p.m. in Syre Center. It will be an opportunity for students to learn about programs and majors, application deadlines, scholarships and more.
Whatcom’s Criminal Justice Leadership Club is teaming up with the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Department to “give a Christmas” to less fortunate children and families. On Dec. 4 and 5, there will be an on-campus fundraiser with proceeds benefitting these children. Project Santa collects donations to purchase toys, food and trees with ornaments to bring the spirit of Christmas to as many less fortunate families as possible.
IT help desk
The free student-run help desk is running Mondays and Tuesdays from 9: 15 a.m. to 11: 15 a.m. and Fridays from 9: 15 a.m. to 2: 15 p.m to help students with their personal computers. The help desk can be found just outside of Heiner 105.
