A whole other dimension

The math department will present a colloquium talk on polytopes by Dr. Will Webber. The colloquium will be held in Syre 212 from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. on May 23. All faculty, staff, and students from Whatcom are welcome to attend. In two dimensions there are polygons. In three dimensions there are polyhedral. What is in four dimensions? Polytopes

Intercultural film and discussion

There will be a screening of the film “Crossing Borders” from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in Heiner 209 on May 22. Following the film, a panel of international Whatcom students from countries including India, Indonesia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Kenya will provide insight into their respective cultures as a follow-up to themes that arise in the film.

“Crossing Borders” is a 70-minute, award-winning documentary that explores the interaction between American and Moroccan university students as they travel together through Morocco and discover themselves.

Kayaking Travelogue

Mary Haberman will be giving a presentation on her recent kayaking adventures. The presentation will be on May 30 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. in Cascade 130.

In March, 2011, Haberman kayaked in the Sea of Cortez off the coast of Baja.  In June, she paddled in the Broken Islands in Barkley Sound on the west coast of Vancouver Island. And in September, she kayaked amongst icebergs in Prince William Sound in Alaska.  Attendees are encouraged to bring questions about kayaking.

Roller Betties are back!

The Bellingham Roller Betties will be back in action on June 2 in the Pavilion with bouts beginning at 5 p.m. General admission is $14. Tickets for children between the ages of 6 and 12 are $6. Children 5 years old or younger get in for free!
