Something was in the air this Valentine’s Day in the Whatcom Community College Pavilion!

Yesterday, Feb.14, WCC’s Men’s Basketball team faced Olympic College – a rival to say the least, after they beat the Orcas in a thrilling double overtime that ended in a 112-105 loss in their last match. In a heartfelt reversal, the Orcas beat the Rangers, 101-74.

The game started with the teams scoring evenly until WCC changed the tide at the end of the first half, scoring an immense lead of 54-24. The onslaught did not stop in the second half with the biggest lead being 41 points late into the second half. WCC’s defensive show was intense and extreme, with little mercy shown the Rangers.

The dynamic duo of Keilan Torkornoo and Noah Madsen impressed everyone by scoring 45 points together – one of the reasons for the insane blowout. Madsen left the game with 21 points, 5 assists and 3 rebounds. Torkornoo went for 24, 3 assists, and 2 steals as well as going ⅘ at the perimeter. Let’s not forget the excellent work of Hunter Phillips and Noah McCord who scored a respectable 13 and 11 points each. McCord also came close to having a triple double by the end of the game. WCC’s team as a whole were insane at the three, going 40.9% from three the whole game – another of the reasons for the huge lead.

Torkornoo and Madsen reported being proud and happy of the system of WCC’s team and how well they did in this game, while still giving props to Olympic College for their previous win Feb.3.

When asked whom they model their game off, Madsen said, “It’s definitely Kyrie Irving, I base my game around his moves and how he finishes.”

Everyone in the crowd erupted in excitement as the lead ended in a win, some fans even asking for players to be their Valentines for the day. All in all, the win capped off a sweet Valentine’s Day for Whatcom!
