Whatcom Community College’s student-run newspaper for all things Whatcom.
The Horizon has been the student newspaper of Whatcom Community College since 1973. It is student-produced and funded primarily by S&A fees and advertising.
In Spring 2026, due to budget shortfalls, the WCC administration decided to remove the Horizon journalism classes and the Horizon coordinator position. So as of school year 2026-2027, the Horizon is shuttered.
That said, former student reporters are still working with KMRE to produce radio segments, and the S&A funding to support the organization is still in place. We hope a transition will enable this impressive student-led organization to endure, and bounce back when funding allows. If you are interested in being part of this change, please contact Student Life or the ASWCC student government.
Editorials and reviews reflect the opinion of the author. Advertisements in the Horizon do not reflect the opinion of the newspaper. When funding allows, the print version of The Horizon is distributed free on and around campus, entitling each person to one copy.
Thank you for supporting democracy in education. Your paper, your voice!
