Whatcom basketball prepares for future

Lynden Christian’s Shaye Brandsma and Kylee Engholm from Mount Baker of the 2016 class, Lynden’s Mariah Gonzalez, Meridian’s Kiana Gray, Sehome’s Samantha Hruby, Nooksack Valley’s Rachel Sande, Lynden Christian’s Emma Stump, Cornerstone Christian’s Elissa Vreugdenhil, and Blaine’s Kjirstin Larson all signed letters of intent to Whatcom on Saturday, April 1. Larson also will be playing volleyball in the fall for the Orcas.

Soccer team brings in new players

Head Coach Mary Schroeder announced Thursday, April 13 that letters of intent had been signed by Ferndale forward JazLynn Ahrens, Squalicom midfielder Payton Fowler, Bellingham forward Kayla Heidenreich, and Meridian’s pair of forwards Payton Lunde and Micaela Pimento, along with Columbia River midfielder Alexis Detling from Vancouver, Wash., Bellingham class of 2016 graduate Kylie Clark, and Ferndale class of 2015 graduate Carly Bannerman. Koenig holds a talk on current relations with Russia

Former US Ambassador John M Koenig gave a presentation at Whatcom regarding our relationship with Russia and past/current events.
Koenig went over what started the deterioration in the relations between Moscow and other Western capitals, the first Cold War, where we’re at now and the brewing of a “new Cold War,” as well as NATO’s part in all of this, all the way up to our current standing.

Orcas fail to punch ticket to final four

Men’s basketball beat Clark College in overtime during the first round of the NWAC tournament but are defeated by Walla-Walla in the second round.
The Orcas clinched the 4th seed of the North division with a play-in victory 87-84 against the Everett Trojans and received their 12th ever berth into the NWAC tournament.

Whatcom offers new office admin certificate

Whatcom Community College began offering a new Business program fall 2016, Office Administration Logistics. The program, created by David Evraets and Tom Burk, specializes in teaching students inventory control. According to Evraets, the program developed due to a community need, as well as his own personal interest with the inflow and outflow of merchandise.
