‘Moana’ navigates through Polynesian culture

“Moana” is everything you would expect from a new feature animated movie from Disney. There is a strong-willed Princess who goes on a great adventure with her animal sidekick and many musical intervals.
Although it’s not just the catchy lyrics, tear-jerking story or beautiful animation that sets “Moana” apart, but the unique attention to detail and cultural history that’s behind it.

Oscars: Western-action-thriller aims to impress come “Hell or High Water”

For my final pick, I chose “Hell or High Water”, a movie that didn’t receive nearly as much buzz as the other films in the category, in fact it was shutout of its four nominations, but I enjoyed it immensely, especially as a change of pace from the slower drama picks in the category.

‘La La Land’ lands seven Golden Globes

The 74th annual Golden Globes were held on Jan. 8 showcasing the best actors, directors, shows and films to have entertained and dazzled us during the rather dreary year of 2016. But at least it ended on a high note that is “La La Land,” a dramatic, romance musical from the mind of Damien Chazzelle, the director and screenwriter for one of 2014’s best films, “Whiplash.”

‘Dope’ doesn’t disappoint

Dope, is a 2015 movie that grossed $6.1 million on opening weekend in the box office, and was just recently released on Netflix. It follows high school senior, Malcolm as he navigates life in a rough neighborhood; Inglewood, California a.k.a. “The Bottoms.” A run-in with a drug dealer, played by the notorious A$AP Rocky making his debut in the film industry, leads Malcolm and his buddies, Diggy and Jib, on quite the adventure.
