Useful tips for new students.
The Dockside Café in the Syre
Student Center is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
New features include bi-weekly rotating themed salad bar with menus from all
four seasons as well as from cuisines from around the world. The Kulshan Coffee
cart is permanently closed.
The Orca Food Pantry upstairs
at Syre Student Center is available to anyone experiencing food insecurity.
Donation boxes are located in each building.
Late Nite ID at the Office of
Student Life & Development is Thursday, Oct. 3 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. for
those students who can’t make it to campus during the day. Get your Orca Card
to take advantage of free WTA bus service, the Pavilion Student Rec Center, and
a host of other perks.
The Bookstore has extended
hours at the beginning of fall quarter on Friday, Sept. 27, from 8 a.m. to 5
p.m. and Monday, Sept. 30 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Book buyback is scheduled for
Oct. 1 and 2 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Learning Center in Cascade
Hall is home to the Math Center (Room 113) and the Writing Center (112) for
homework help and tutoring. The Math Center offers free drop-in and
reservation-based tutoring for all currently enrolled Whatcom students. The Writing
Center tutors are available to work with students online or face-to-face in
Cascade 112: Monday-Thursday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday 10-3. Evening and
Saturday help may also be available.
Mental health counseling
appointments for a variety of issues, including anxiety, depression, crisis
intervention, relationship issues, and academic success strategies, are
available at Entry & Advising or by calling (360) 383-3080.
Gender neutral restrooms are
located in the following buildings: Auxiliary Service Buildings Room 104;
Cascade Hall Room 144; Foundation Building Room 205; Health Professions
Education Center Rooms 120 and 220; Laidlaw Center Rooms 108, 109, 136, and
137; Pavilion Room 119. Students, staff, faculty and visitors are welcome to
use these or any restroom that corresponds to their gender identity.
Student Tech Help Desk is
located on the ground floor of Heiner Center in Rooms 104 and 105. Need help?
Reach them by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling (360)
383-3410. Be sure to take advantage of free Microsoft Office 365 for use on
your personal computer and set up remote access using VMWare. Go to the Whatcom

In summer 2018, the Library
rolled out an institution-wide subscription to the New York Times Online (with
unlimited access back to 1851). Use of the NYT online requires institutional
users (employees and students) to register each year to access the newspaper.
You must log in and initially register from a campus computer and use your
@student.whatcom.edu email address. Go to the Library website under Articles
and Databases, New York Times in Education link. Once you establish your
account, you can sign in from any device or any computer anywhere using your
Smoking is generally permitted
in exterior locations on college grounds; however, there are several areas on
the campus of Whatcom Community College designated for smoking or designated as
smoke-free zones. A smoke-free designation prohibits the use of tobacco,
electronic cigarettes, vaporizers, and related products, as defined in the WCC
Student Code of Conduct. Smoking or vaping is not permitted inside any
building, including bathrooms.
Whatcom’s pet policy is
limited to service animals only. The definition of service animals includes
“dogs that are individually trained to do work or perform tasks for people with
