Club Bake Sale

The clubs at Whatcom Community College will sell homemade baked treats in Cascade, Syre, and Laidlaw Feb. 13, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The sales will contribute to a fundraiser for The Growing Veterans, a local organization which connects veterans with their communities.

 

Learning Languages with Teachers of  Tomorrow

As part of the Teachers of Tomorrow Club’s open monthly events in Kulshan 226, guest speaker Brenna Uzcategui, an early childhood Spanish teacher, will give insights and strategies for teaching foreign languages to young children. Uzcategui will speak from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 13.

 

Ethnic Student Association Movie Nights

 

On Feb. 11, 19, and 25 the Ethnic Student Association will host movies from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in Syre 104. These movies will not be advertised and students must attend in order to find out which movie will be shown.

 

International Week: February 24-28

 

For the week of Feb. 24 to 28, international dishes will be served at the Dockside Café.

Ratna Roy will be presenting “Hinduism: A Way of Life in Washington” Feb. 25 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in Syre 105. Afterwards there will be an open question and answer session until 3:30 p.m.

On Feb. 26, there will be poetry readings about the “Origins of Identity” from noon to 1 p.m. in Syre 104. Presenters include Setsuko Buckley, Maria Thompson, Ben Kohn, Anne George, Jennifer Bullis, and Stacey Lewis. At 5 p.m. in Heiner 209 is the Programming and Diversity Board’s presentation on Human Trafficking Awareness. Alysa Kelsey and Don Glunt will speak about the issue.

International Night will be held in the Syre Auditorium from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Feb. 27. The event will include international cuisine, live music, dancing, and various performances. The entry fee is $5 but those who bring a dish to share get in for free.

Finishing off International Week is the Study Abroad Fair on Feb. 28. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Laidlaw hallway, students will have the opportunity to learn about future trips and programs to Costa Rica, Australia, London, Florence, and Barcelona.
