Harvest Hunger Banquet
A Harvest Hunger Banquet was held Nov. 25 in Syre Auditorium to raise awareness of hunger both in Whatcom County and around the world. Some of Whatcom Community College’s international students spoke about poverty in their countries and compared it with what they have seen in America. The event was free, but local businesses donated to the event. All proceeds went to The PAD, a local teen homeless shelter, and OxFam, an organization that seeks to alleviate poverty and hunger internationally. Attendees ate typical meals from countries with varying levels of economic development, including India, Brazil, America, and Pakistan.
